The first critic I looked into was A.O. Scott. I find him interesting because theres a lot of drama and controversy surrounding his name. I immediately found two articles about a review he wrote about the recent Avengers film. His opinion, a pretty unpopular one as far as the movie goes, definitely hit a nerve with Sam Jackson (Nick Fury in the film, and all around badass). The links to the articles are here and here. While I disagree with A.O.'s opinion on the film, I have to give him props for writing what he's really thinking, despite it being unpopular.
The second critic I looked into was Manohla Dargis, a peer of Scott's with a super crazy name! I found an article detailing her thoughts on a variety of subjects on Jezebel! Jezebel is one of my favorite sites, I check it pretty much every day. If you're not familiar with it, definitely check it out. The article is here. I find her very outspoken and strong. I agree with a lot of her opinions, and was interested to read her thoughts on the Hunger Games film (of which I am a fan).
Teresa: Interesting choices, but you only mention two critics (The assignment requested 3). Your review of A.O. Scott is okay but rather generic and vague. What is the controversy surrounding his name and does it have anything to do with his reviewing?
ReplyDeleteYour review on Manohla seems to focus more on the Jezebel website than her actual review. I'm not even sure what her review is about or what her opinions to be so outspoken and strong. Gimme more info!
First, I'm so glad you reply me on my first assignment, and you are also the first one commit on it. I'm a fan of Avangers, and I'm intersted to read the link you put. Also, I'm also a fan of tattos, but only on the art area. Because I have nothing of it on my body, I don't know it's hurt or not and should I do it. If I could, I pobably will make one like Kratos on my shoulder and back.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Avengers yet, and everyone seems to think I'm crazy for it. Everyone I've talked to about it seems to love it except for a select few. It is great that someone can actually write what they think about a piece rather than going with the popular belief.
